About Joanna

Joanna YoungHi, I’m Joanna Young, the author and editor of this website.

I live in the west coast of Scotland and am enchanted by the light and landscape here.  The photos you see on this site are all taken by me: you can find more at my Flickr photo site.

I’m also fascinated by the culture, language, history and heritage of the highlands and islands (inspired at least in part by my own family history).  I’m a beginner learner of Scottish Gaelic (and if you’re interested, run a Tumblr blog with links, videos and other resources on Gaelic that I find on the web).

I’ve published a book of Short Walks on Skye, published by Luath Press.

I write in many different places on the web, including my main blog Confident Writing.  It was recently named one of the top 10 blogs for writers, and it’s packed full of tips on how to write with greater confidence.  You should find some useful ideas and resources there to help you tackle your own memoir writing project.

A book of the best of the blog is coming out in the spring of 2009… news about the book will be posted here just as soon as it’s ready.

I can help you with a wide range of writing projects by providing feedback, critiques, editing and coaching support.  You can find out more about the services I offer here, and please do get in touch if you think this could help you.

I’ll be adding more information on services to help with your memoir writing project once I complete my specialist training.
